JAIPUR GEMS OF HERITAGE AND HEIRLOOMS
What makes a jewellery an heirloom? How do you know if your jewellery will eventually be an heirloom piece worn and worn for generations to come? Siddhartha Sacheti of Jaipur Gems gives you tips on what to look out for when investing in heirloom jewellery:
1. Design: When it comes to design, buying a piece of jewellery can be compared to buying art. Timeless designs should be your priority when selecting jewellery. Look for inspirational design features that reflect a jeweller's vision and tells a story. A jeweller's inspiration could range from architecture of a region to art of the land to cultural symbols, all these elements combine to show the passion of the jeweller and as a result makes the jewellery an heirloom piece. If a jeweller can tell you a story about his design inspiration with equal passion then you know you are in good hands and you will also feel the same way about your purchase for decades to come.
2. Quality: A well reputed jeweller will always use the highest quality materials to ensure that he doesn't compromise on the design. Jewellery that brings out the beauty of the stones and enhances the grace and charm of the wearer also. If the choice of gemstones and material is of utmost importance to the jeweller then you can enjoy the jewellery today and for years to come.
3. Craftsmanship: An heirloom piece has many virtues. If you have bought from a reputed jeweller who has generations of history and a passion to serve then you've found the brand that you must invest in. Attention to detail is what sets apart superior craftsmanship of any design.
4. Limited edition: Mass produced jewellery can never be an heirloom piece because that involves a large scale manufacturing process that is not individual and lacks the passion of the maker. It is the same difference between a couture piece and an off the rack piece. It's no surprise then that this kind of jewellery won't be passed on from one generation to another.

Jaipur – City Of Royals
Forts, palaces, architectural marvels and tales of valour, all in their own way, bear testimony to the glory that Jaipur, , is and was just after it was conceived by Sawai Jai Singh in 1727. Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, was the first planned city in northern India with a history that dates back to the 12th century when the Kachchwaha clan o Rajputs arrived at the old fort palace of Amber in the Aravalli Hills.
Called the Pink City because of the colour of the stone exclusively used for the construction of all structures. Jaipur is one of the most beautiful cities of India. The culture, architecture, tradition, art jewellery and textiles of Jaipur have always charmed the travellers. It is one city that. Even after modernisation, still holds to its roots and values. The glorious past of Jaipur comes alive in the palaces and forts in the city where once lived the royal clans. The majestic forts and havelis, the beautiful temples, the serene landscapes, and the rich cultural heritage, have made Jaipur an ideal destination for tourists.
On the whole, the collection was beautifully Indian but also Luxuriously-bohemian. The collection has a style edginess—billowy Pallazos, Dhoti pants, Jackets that morph as cholis, pre-draped Sari silhouettes, Flowing Tunic Dresses in beautiful artisanal textures.
It is like a kiss between the Western world and Indian Culture: the result a refreshingly contemporary collection. It's all about the details-fringes, flower drops, pompoms and pleats-subtle and yet making a strong style statement.
Designed for infants and children, the philosophy is essentially about the old and the new sitting effortlessly next to each other. It is about the life of the modern day child (the raja or rani of every house): pairing old world, princely charms in contemporary looms, traditional roots in a post modern era, am Indian-ness with a global-ness. Fashioned for the pursuit of pleasure and comfort, this collection includes signature pieces for the boudoir of every modern day little prince and princess. About MAL:
When it opened its first store in 2010, with a pool of talented designers: craftsmen of drapes, stitches and textiles MAL quickly charmed the local style brigade and Bollywood babies. Challenging conventional practice through it's unusual locations, lived in displays and product selections, MAL has quickly transformed into a retail enigma.
With an eye on appreciating fashion as art, each MAL store is designed to allow people to relax, pause and appreciate. There is little to suggest that it is a retail store, it could be the boudoir of a little maharaja or choti maharani quite comfortable straddling the past and present. Vintage drying hangers, wooden chests, brass tea sets are befitting display stands for our beautiful wearable art: what you see is a way of life and not merely a showcase. Our Roots
MAL has it's roots in the word MulMul or a fine Muslin that was the first choice of cloth for a mother to swathe her newborn child in whether she was a woman of simple means or moved in courtly circles. It is in response to this sentiment of a mother, to give her child noting but the finest the world has to offer, that we have created Mal, to that combine the old world charm with modern sensibilities.

The phrase "runs in her blood" is often misused and abused. Very rarely can it be used so perfectly for someone; indeed Delhi based designer Ridhi Mehra is one such person. Her mother and aunt have been designing and retailing garments for many years now, so Ridhi grew up in a world of fashion and design! It's no wonder that after graduating from NIFT and the School of Management at the University of Nottingham, she forayed into fashion design in early 2012! And the rest as they say is history.
Her collections were featured in popular magazines like Vogue, Harpers Bazaar Bride, Cosmopolitan, Conde Nast Traveller and HELLO!, newspapers like the Hindustan Times and countless blogs and websites online. Apart from the press and the general public, it was clear that even Bollywood loved her work! The Bollywood's elite - Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Parineeti Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit and Huma Qureshi to name a few, have worn and loved her designs. With a well established network of retail tie ups, Ridhi's designs are now available across the country.

Ridhima Bhasin is a contemporary Indian designer, based in New Delhi. Born and raised in Delhi, Ridhima grew up assimilating an, overwhelming history, diverse culture, seminal art, copious heritage, divine architecture and design. Growing up she always knew that, she was born to create; little did she know that, she was born to create Fashion. It wasn't until she casually started taking interest in her sister, Ritika Bhasin's label. She'd find herself lounging around her sister's workshop for hours, helping people out , observing , getting a little too frantic about fabrics and embellishments; only to realize that she was highly fascinated by all that is, Fashion. She was destined to design, and that is what fostered her to pursue it as a career.
So, to give her daydream a chance, Ridhima enrolled herself in London College of Fashion. She acquired her technical skills, while studying 'Design & Merchandising' there. She graduated in summer of 2010, and decided to come back to India, only to join her sister's successful label, as her apprentice. She worked with her for three years, which helped enhance her design aesthetics and work ethics.
Finally, in 2014, with the right time and proficiency, the namesake label Ridhima Bhasin was born.
Ridhima Bhasin's design philosophy is pretty clear: 'It's for the people and from the people.' She has always been inspired by the idyllic modern-day woman, who is spirited yet soigné. She is quick to take inspiration from everything around her.
Her label is a juxtaposition of Brilliant craftsmanship, Indian textiles, intricate embroideries, and functionality. Her aesthetics are all about breaking the shackles of mundane silhouettes and color schemes. All her designs strike the right balance between contemporary and conservative, mainly focusing on accentuating the female form, resulting in romantic cuts and flattering silhouettes. So far, the label has come out with four collections. Each collection focuses on fusing, exotic Indian fabrics, intricate detailing, and impressive color palettes; to get that perfect attire every single time.
The label has been quick to understand the demands of the Indian market, since the very beginning. Maybe, that's the reason it has received so much appreciation and support so far; resulting it to retail to some of the best stores nationwide and internationally.
However, the journey of this young label has just begun, as Ridhima aspires to carve a niche for herself in the Fashion Industry, and be recognized, for her hard work and talent.
The Rimple and Harpreet Narula label is an interesting meeting ground of couture, craft and heritage.
Their signature style represents an interesting paradox of rural craft and exalted design -- highly distressed surface treatments are juxtaposed with fine hand embroideries and the silhouettes enhanced with a contemporary spin! Their take on design and the process of design is intuitive while their approach to color and use of fabric is spontaneous yet exceptional.
Their current fascination with Antique Textiles and Motifs as well as their interest in the flourishing period of Islamic art, has kept them engaged in creating a collection that is rich, ornate and yet sophisticated and extraordinarily unique.
With a flagship store each in Delhi and Ludhiana, the label also retails from Amara, Ogaan and Aza, Ensemble and Aara Fashions in Dubai, Aashni+Co., London as well as Sanskrit in Hong Kong.
SVA meaning 'soul' in Sanskrit is the labour of love by Sonam & Paras Modi. SVA was borne out of a passion for heritage, color and craftsmanship which is reflected in every creation.
Intricate detailing, elaborate handcrafting, luxurious fabrics, and exceptional styling. Sonam's expertise as a creative designer and Paras Modi's previous background in International Business and most importantly their willingness to start something together led to SVA.
Sabyasachi's design philosophy is very simple and clear- 'Personalized imperfection of the human hand'. Deserts, gypsies, prostitutes, antique textiles and cultural traditions of his home town, Kolkata have been a lifelong inspiration for this designer who believes that "clothes should just be an extension of one's intellect". He uses unusual fabrics, texturing and detailing, 'fusion' of styles, 'patch-worked' with gorgeous embellishments in a vibrant diverse color palette to make the feeling of going back to the 'soul'. His creations evoke images of ancient and medieval ages. He describes his own collections as 'an International styling with an Indian soul'. In his designs, he tries to maintain a non commercial balance in an extremely aggressive, commercial and competitive industry. His collection is for people who prefer to walk a path less traveled and who definitely believe that slowing down is not equivalent to dropping out.
